At Nine Zero, we pride ourselves on being sustainable timber window suppliers. Our timber sash windows can add classic charm and character to any property.
With the current climate crisis, there has been an increased demand for timber windows as they have a lower carbon footprint. Designed to reduce ‘whole life’ CO₂ emissions, timber windows are perfect for those who are climate-conscious and are looking for a sustainable home improvement option.
Are timber sash windows ethically sourced?
At Nine Zero, sustainability is at the forefront of our business. Wood is the only naturally sustainable mainstream building material. It is important to us to source our timber from responsible suppliers, which is why we use FSC certified engineered Redwood and Red Grandis timber for our timber sash windows. Being FSC certified ensures forests are managed in a way that protects and conserves the biodiversity and ecological functions of the forest.
Once trees mature, the production rate of oxygen slows. When trees are in their early years of growth, they produce more oxygen and absorb higher levels of carbon. By harvesting and replanting on a sustainable basis, the carbon levels in the atmosphere are reduced.
How sustainable is the manufacturing process?
Not only are our windows ethically sourced, but we work to ensure our factory continues to reduce its carbon footprint. All our timber waste is recycled on the surrounding farms, which helps provide a renewable energy source to those local to our factory.
As timber window manufacturers we need energy to create our products. By using Good Energy as our energy suppliers, all our electricity comes from certified renewable sources. Good Energy make huge efforts to tackle climate change, using solar, hydro, wind, and biofuel.
Our timber products generate a lot less waste than other materials as they have a longer life. When considering the ‘whole life’ cost, timber sash windows are typically 14-25 percent less expensive, making them a cost-effective option.
Energy efficiency of timber sash windows
Our timber sash windows have excellent thermal performance. Wood is a natural insulator with very low levels of thermal conductivity, which makes it the perfect material for retaining heat in the home. For homeowners looking to reduce home energy bills, timber sash windows are a great choice. Lower U-Values mean better insulation. Our windows have U-Values as low as 0.7W/m²K and meet BS 6375:2015 Parts 1 & 2 for weathertightness, ensuring great energy efficiency for homes.
Sustainable wooden windows from Nine Zero
Our timber sash windows are created with sustainability in mind. According to the British Federation Woodworking Group, they have a long-life span, reaching to 60 years when well maintained. Using advanced sustainable timber coatings, repainting cycles are vastly reduced.
Sustainability is at the heart of our business, which is why we promise to plant 5 trees for every order placed.
We have both traditional box sash windows and spring balance sash windows in a wide choice of designs and colours to suit any project.
